Jan. 24, 2012 - As part of an ongoing project to upgrade vaults in its system, Denver Water and its contractor, Concrete Works of Colorado, will begin major maintenance work in the intersection of Quincy Avenue and Broadway beginning Monday, Jan. 30.
During this eight-week project, Quincy Avenue will be closed for a half block just east of Acoma Street to Broadway. The full closure is necessary because the vault is located beneath Quincy Avenue, and the contractor needs unimpeded access to areas around the perimeter to safely work along the deep excavation site and to stage equipment.
The work will take place Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., but lane closures will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To expedite the project, some weekend work is expected, with prior approval from the City of Englewood. The project is expected to be completed by the end of March.
This work is part of ongoing efforts to maintain aging water infrastructure. Vaults are underground rooms that house valves and operating equipment. This project includes replacing 30 feet of a 36-inch diameter pipe and all internal components of the vault located under Quincy Avenue.
Local access will remain open for the businesses between Acoma Street and Broadway, but through traffic and parking will be restricted near the construction zone. All detours and parking restrictions will be clearly marked and the contractor will install construction fencing to isolate the site off hours.
Water service to the surrounding homes and businesses should not be affected by the work.
