Aug. 31, 2010 - Denver Water’s project to rehabilitate water mains in intersections in Downing Street will begin Tuesday, Sept. 7, and continue through Friday, Oct. 15. A Denver Water contractor will be installing a 20-inch valve and making other improvements to the 24-inch conduit in Downing Street between Kentucky Avenue and Arkansas Avenue. One lane of traffic will be open in both directions on Downing Street, but turns at some intersections may be prohibited. Delays along the project’s length should be expected, but work is scheduled to take place outside of peak rush-hour times.
The work will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
The project is part of Denver Water’s ongoing maintenance program to rehabilitate cast-iron pipe in its system. The utility has been upgrading water mains in the Washington Park area all summer. The work involves cleaning old, unlined cast-iron water mains and lining them with a cement mortar lining, as well as adding and replacing valves and upgrading fire hydrants. This project is critically important in maintaining and rehabilitating water mains in Denver Water’s system to preserve a good level of service, ensure adequate fire flows, minimize outages and maintain water quality.
