May 27, 2010 - Recap: A FasTracks contractor working near 12th Avenue and Knox Court ruptured a 30-inch conduit around 10:30 a.m. yesterday. Because of a resulting significant loss of pressure in the area, Denver Water has advised homes and businesses between 10th Avenue and 24th Avenue, and Federal Boulevard and Tennyson Street to boil their water before drinking.
Denver Water went door-to-door to homes and businesses in the area to advise residents and businesses to boil water. Those who weren’t home received a door hanger. A Reverse 911 with a bilingual message went out to the area.
Update:
- Water continues to be distributed at the following two locations:
- Cheltenham Elementary School, 1580 Julian St.
- Sloan’s Lake, off 17th Avenue near the tennis courts
- The boil water advisory will remain in effect until at least 6 p.m. this evening, after water testing is complete.
- The contractor repaired the conduit last night. It has been disinfected and will be flushed today.
- When the boil water advisory is over, another Reverse 911 call will go out to local residents to advise them the water is clear, and Denver Water will go door-to-door to home and businesses with flyers. We also will issue a news release when the boil water advisory is over.
- The boil water advisory was issued as a precautionary measure, as required by the state because the water pressure in the area dropped below a certain level. We are not expecting any problems, but want to err on the side of caution.
- Customers with questions should call Denver Water at 303-893-2444.
