Denver Water Rates

Consumption and Service Charges

Denver Water sets its rates based upon a cost of service analysis. All Denver Water customers are grouped into customer classes (residential, commercial, industrial, etc.), and by whether they live inside or outside the City and County of Denver. Cost of service rates recover costs from each customer class in proportion to the cost of providing the service to each class.

The rates for the Denver Water service area are approved by the Denver Board of Water Commissioners after an extensive review of the revenue requirements and costs underlying any rate proposal. There is a public comment period (approximately 30 days) prior to the Board's voting on the proposed rates.

There are two components to Denver Water's rates:

  1. A consumption charge per 1,000 gallons consumed and;
  2. A fixed, per account service charge to cover such things as the cost of meter reading and billing.

If the Board is considering a rate increase, information will be posted on the Web site in early August. If you would like to receive notices of proposed rate increases, please contact publicinformation@denverwater.org

If you have questions about rates or surcharges, e-mail us.
