We currently have several regular and temporary positions.
The Laborer, in Denver Water’s Transmission and Distribution Section, under close supervision, performs a variety of laboring and unskilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of all facilities of the Department.
Duties include laying, repairing or extending pipeline. Performs unskilled to semi-skilled work such as digging, lifting, carrying, backfilling, mixing concrete, and snow removal; unloads materials transported by various vehicles, properly placing, piling, or storing such material or equipment. Assists in the maintenance of equipment, drains, water pipes, ditches, sewers, and similar facilities; keeps tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition; oils and greases machinery. May perform general janitorial work and clean area using sweeper or broom. Erects barricades around work site. Break up pavement using air hammer and dig ditches preparatory to laying or removing pipe. Maneuver pipe sections, valves and fittings into position and hold pieces steady while fellow worker tightens threaded connections. Assist utility workers. Performs related duties as assigned.
- Must have a high school diploma or a G.E.D.
- Construction-related experience is preferred.
- On call duty, shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as directed.
- Very strenuous work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class R Colorado driver’s license (PLEASE ADD UNDER THE LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES AREA IN THE APPLICATION). A satisfactory driving record is required (six or fewer points in the past two years). Class B CDL required within six months of appointment.
Qualified candidates will be required to pass the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test. The successful candidate must pass a background check to verify information submitted and complete a physical, drug test, and strength test.
