Outhouses with a view

Oct. 19, 2009 - Crews ready log-cabin style restroom buildings along east portal of the Moffat tunnel.Recreation enthusiasts will be relieved to know that Denver Water and the U.S. Forest Service completed the construction of two new restroom buildings on the east portal of the Moffat Tunnel. For Denver Water, the construction of these log cabin-style restrooms fulfilled annual upkeep requirements for maintaining the Gross Reservoir FERC Hydroelectric License, while providing travelers with a welcome respite.

The Moffat Tunnel is accessed year-round by hikers, hunters and skiers. The Moffat Tunnel is a key access point for James Peak and is trafficked year-round by hikers, hunters and skiers. “We are happy to have worked with the U.S. Forest Service to provide the new facilities,” said Denver Water Recreation Specialist Rick Lewis. “The Moffat Tunnel now has outhouses with a view!”

As part of an overall improvement effort along Boulder Creek, earlier in September Denver Water and the U.S. Forest Service worked with Wildlands Restoration Volunteers to stabilize the banks of Boulder Creek near the tunnel’s portal.
