New recycled water tech spent years in water industry

Damian HighamDamian Higham, Denver Water’s new recycled water compliance technician, brings a wealth of knowledge to the recycled water system.

Higham spent nine years at Aquionix, a consulting company that helps organizations meet increasingly complicated environmental, health and safety regulations. At Aquionix, Higham worked on various water issues — stormwater, drinking water, industrial wastewater, among others — to make sure companies met complex rules so their projects would be successful.

At Denver Water, Higham works with recycled water customers to make sure they’re following the rules and helps them understand new regulations. He also reviews plans to make sure sites are ready for recycled water, teaches new customers about recycled water requirements and benefits, and develops training materials.

Higham said he’s excited to be in an industry that’s relatively young, where he has a chance to offer input to regulators and help customers see the benefits of using recycled water.

“Being on the ground floor of something that’s only going to get bigger and bigger in Colorado as our drinking water resources become more and more strained is pretty exciting,” he said.
