Xeriscape Demonstration Garden

Pampas Grass in the
Demo Garden

In 1981 Denver Water joined the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado and other Green Industry organizations in developing the nation's first Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. The original portion of the garden was constructed on 1/3 of an acre on the southwest side of Denver Water's Administration Building, and cost $55,000, 60% of which came from private donations.

Since the garden first opened to the public in 1982, it has nearly tripled in size to surround the Administration Building. Today there are more than 200 species of waterwise plants on display, including trees, shrubs, perennials, ornamental grasses, and test plots of alternative turf grasses.

The Demonstration Garden is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. It is located at the Denver Water's Administration Building (map) at 1600 West 12th Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80254.
