General Document Questions
The Geomatics Technical Standards provide survey quality definitions to qualify geospatial data, standard field practices for the preparation of accurate and consistent data collection established by the Denver Water Survey Section and are accompanied by geographic reference definitions to streamline integration.
These standards are intended for Surveyors, Engineers, Consultants, and GIS staff who prepare, submit, or manage geospatial data for Denver Water projects. Following these standards ensures compatibility across field data collection, mapping, and integration with enterprise systems.
The Geomatics Technical Standards ensure all survey and geospatial data collected for in the Denver Water Combined Service Area meet consistent accuracy, format, and reference requirements. By following these standards, users can reduce rework, improve data integration, and maintain spatial reliability across project deliverables.

FAQs
Submit a Civil 3D DWG using Denver Water’s CAD template, raw field files (.jxl, .job, .csv), field notes, sketches, photos, a TBC project, a geodatabase export (.xml), and a surveyor’s Quality Level compliance statement. All drawings must follow Survey Mapping and Staking Standards.
Reviewers confirm compliance with Survey Mapping and Staking Standards, CAD Standards, and the Feature Definition Summary. They verify all required files — raw data, control documentation, geodatabase, photos, and QA statement — are included and consistent with stated datums and quality levels.
To work within the Denver Water Custom Coordinate System, use the definitions provided in our standards. CAD coordinate system definitions are included with the CAD Standards — Survey Support Files, and Trimble Business Center coordinate system definitions and a State Plane conversion utility are included in the Geomatics Technical Standards.
To align with Denver Water survey mapping standards, use the Trimble coordinate system definition to survey on the appropriate Denver Water grid, collect field data with the supplied feature definition, and draft using the Denver Water CAD drawing template. All required resources are available on the standards website, specifically within the Geomatics Technical Standards and the CAD Standards — Survey Support Files.
