About the project
In January 2026, Denver Water will begin a pipe replacement project along Sheridan Boulevard to replace nearly 8,000 linear feet of aging pipes — called water mains — underneath the road. The work is taking place in advance of the City of Edgewater’s Sheridan Boulevard Multimodal Corridor Plan. Partner agencies for the City’s plan include the City and County of Denver, Colorado Department of Transportation and Regional Transportation District.
To minimize construction impacts on businesses and traffic, as well as reduce the overall construction timeline, work will typically occur at night, Sunday through Thursday, from approximately 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The first phase of construction will take place along Sheridan Boulevard between 17th and 29th avenues and is expected to last approximately nine months. Once this phase is complete, crews will continue working south along Sheridan Boulevard, between 17th and 13th avenues. The overall project is expected to be completed by early 2027.
Denver Water will provide regular project updates via email and posted on the social media platform Nextdoor.
Residents and businesses in the construction zone will receive additional notifications with information about specific impacts they may experience.

Project FAQs
As Denver Water’s infrastructure reaches the end of its useful life, we identify specific water mains in need of replacement to ensure our customers receive a continuous supply of high-quality water. Denver Water replaces these pipes for various reasons, including reducing the need for repair or the chances of breaks, replacing corroded pipes, preventing water quality concerns, increasing available hydrant flow and improving area water delivery.
The replacement of aging underground water infrastructure is being completed in advance of the City of Edgewater’s planned improvements along Sheridan Boulevard. Completing this work now helps reduce the likelihood of future disruptions that could result from water main repairs beneath newly paved streets. This proactive approach supports the City’s Sheridan Boulevard Multimodal Corridor Plan, which will focus on enhancing safety and mobility between West 17th and West 26th avenues.
Denver Water’s pipe replacement work will start in January 2026 and is expected to be completed by early 2027. However, many factors can affect construction timing, including weather conditions, materials and crew availability and emergency work may also take priority.
Crews will work in two-to-three-block increments and will dig a trench to install the new pipe. Once the new pipe is installed, it will be tested to ensure there are no leaks and that it meets water quality standards. Crews will then connect the new pipe to the existing water supply system.
Denver Water will also replace any lead service lines encountered during this project.
Yes. Businesses will remain open throughout construction.
To minimize impacts on businesses, Denver Water is completing this work at night. We will do our best to ensure individuals are able to safely access businesses that are operating during construction hours, which will typically be nightly, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
There will be nightly road closures and parking restrictions in place Sunday through Thursday, from approximately 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Before reopening the roadway each morning, the trench will be patched with asphalt and the road will be drivable.
This project requires some water outages. Before any planned water outages, Denver Water will provide detailed information about the date and expected length of the outage to impacted customers, as well as ways to prepare.
While unlikely, emergency water shut-offs may also occur. If this happens, crews will work directly with affected customers.
Denver Water will replace lead service lines we encounter. These replacements will take place from the first brass fitting inside the home or building to the tap, where the service line connects to the water main. If crews identify a lead service line at your property, Denver Water will coordinate the replacement with you.
Denver Water’s trenches will be patched with asphalt before the roadway reopens each morning.
Temporary repairs to sidewalks may be in place until permanent improvements occur as part of the City of Edgewater’s Sheridan Boulevard Multimodal Corridor Plan. Permanent sidewalk restoration may be delayed in winter months due to low temperatures and poor weather conditions.
Landscaping is typically restored April through October and may be delayed until the next planting season.
