Water-thirsty Kentucky bluegrass doesn’t fit naturally into Colorado’s dry environment.
It’s often a household’s biggest water user and removing it helps conserve and protect our precious water resources, especially as Colorado started this year with record-low snowpack, the primary source of our drinking water.
Consider an unused area of turf to start your drought-tolerant ColoradoScape.
To help, Denver Water has partnered with Resource Central, a nonprofit in Boulder, to offer a limited number of discounts (up to $750) on 2026 turf removal services for our residential customers. Applications open March 9.
Application requirements include:
- The removal of at least 200 square feet of water-intensive turfgrass.
- A photo of the area to be transformed.
- Plans for the new water-wise landscape (artificial turf is not allowed).
