Water-thirsty Kentucky bluegrass doesn’t fit naturally into Colorado’s dry environment. It’s often a household’s biggest water user and therefore a great place to conserve and protect our water resources!
Look for an unused area of turfgrass, such as an area that you only walk on to mow it. This is a great place to remodel into a climate-resilient ColoradoScape with cooling shade trees and water-wise plants.
To help our residential customers remove their unused turfgrass, Denver Water has partnered with Boulder nonprofit Resource Central to offer our customers a limited number of discounts of up to $750 off their 2025 residential turfgrass removal services.
Planning to DIY and remove at least 200 square feet of turfgrass yourself? You also can apply for the program and if approved, use the discount to receive up to four Garden In A Box kits for your new water-wise garden.
Application requirements include:
- Plans to remove at least 200 square feet of water-intensive turfgrass.
- A photo of the area to be transformed.
- Plans for the new water-wise landscape (artificial turf is not allowed).
Apply, learn more and sign up to receive email updates about the turfgrass removal program, including application due dates.
