Garden In A Box kits: No green thumb required!

Denver Water offering customers a limited number of $25 discounts for water-wise, professionally designed garden kits.

What if I told you that you could create your own water-wise ColoradoScape — without hiring a professional landscaper or spending a lot of money?

Well, now’s the time, as Denver Water is offering its residential customers a limited number of $25 discounts on water-wise Garden In A Box kits from its partner, the Boulder nonprofit Resource Central.

And if you’re planning to replace between 200 and 2,000 square feet of water-intensive Kentucky bluegrass, Denver Water can help with that too. The utility is offering its residential customers a discount — up to $750 — off Resource Central’s turf replacement services

Also, if you’re going the DIY route and removing at least 200 square feet of your turfgrass, you can apply to the program and, if approved, use the discount to receive up to four Garden In A Box kits.

The spring Garden In A Box sale starts today, Tuesday, March 4, with the kits available for pickup and planting in May and June. The late summer sale starts June 17, with the kits available for pickup and planting in August and September.

Garden In A Box kits can add pops of color to your landscape using carefully selected water-wise plants that offer interest throughout the seasons, plus food and habitat to local birds, bees and insects. Denver Water has partnered with Resource Central since 2014 to offer these popular, water-wise kits.

Kits include:

  • Small “starter” plants that will grow as they become established in about three years.
  • Professionally designed perennial gardens with plant-by-number instructions.
  • Care and maintenance information.
  • Water-wise plants that will help you save at least 7,000 gallons of water over the garden’s lifetime (compared to the same area covered by Kentucky bluegrass).

Resource Central’s spring sale also offers starter plants for summer vegetable gardens, peppers, squash and tomatoes for those interested in growing food; however, the vegetable kits are not eligible for Denver Water’s discount.

Denver Water will be handing out water-wise grass seed at Garden In A Box pickup events this spring and fall. Learn more about our water-wise grass mix!
