Garden In A Box kits: Summer sale starts Wednesday, June 24!

Denver Water offering customers a limited number of $25 discounts for water-wise, professionally designed garden kits.

Editor's note: Resource Central's summer sale for Garden In A Box kits kicks off Wednesday, June 24. Denver Water is offering its residential customers a limited number of $25 discounts on water-wise Garden In A Box kits.

What if I told you that you could create your own water-wise ColoradoScape — without hiring a professional landscaper or spending a lot of money?

Well, now’s the time, as the record-low winter snowpack led Denver Water to call on customers to reduce water use by 20% and implement mandatory drought restrictions, including limiting watering to two assigned days per week, in order to stretch existing water supplies in its reservoirs. Denver Water also is offering its residential customers a limited number of $25 discounts on water-wise Garden In A Box kits from its partner, the Boulder nonprofit Resource Central.

"Now is a great time for customers to be looking at their yards and thinking about changes they can make to reduce their water demand during this drought, and the next one,” said Greg Fisher, demand planning and efficiency manager for Denver Water.

“Now's a great time to remodel a portion of your yard, or more, to feature more climate-appropriate plants and drought-tolerant grasses,” he said.

Garden In A Box kits can add pops of color to your landscape using carefully selected water-wise plants that offer interest throughout the seasons, plus food and habitat to local birds, bees and insects. Denver Water has partnered with Resource Central since 2014 to offer these popular, water-wise kits.

Kits include:

  • Small “starter” plants that will grow as they become established in about three years.
  • Professionally designed perennial gardens with plant-by-number instructions.
  • Care and maintenance information.
  • Water-wise plants that will help you save at least 7,000 gallons of water over the garden’s lifetime (compared to the same area covered by Kentucky bluegrass).
