Why we love National Hug a Plumber Day
Our most precious resource — water — flows to you because of them.
At Denver Water, we think every day should include celebrating plumbers. Why?
Because plumbers are the problem solvers, the puzzle fixers, the solutions people who ensure water makes it through the pipes to you.
Denver Water has its own team of plumbers that work at utility facilities and help connect the public water system to 1.5 million people in Denver and the surrounding suburbs.
So, of course Denver Water is going to fully embrace Friday, April 25, which is National Hug A Plumber Day!
Here are just a few of the reasons why Denver Water’s plumbers — and all plumbers — are awesome:
- They keep your water flowing. Denver Water’s plumbers do far more than fix toilets and leaky faucets at the utility's facilities. They’re involved in everything from Denver Water building upgrades to new installations to emergency repairs. And they’re superheroes in a water emergency. When a water pipe bursts at a Denver Water facility, it has to get fixed ASAP, and they help make that happen — no matter what time of day or what kind of weather.
- They help keep the water safe to drink. At Denver Water, our plumbers connect the pipes that deliver water. They install backflow valves (which make sure water doesn’t accidentally flow backward back into the public water system) to keep the water in the public water system clean and safe. And they are always using their years of knowledge and training to solve critical problems.
- They work with experts across Denver Water's system. Denver Water’s plumbers work anywhere from the utility’s mountain reservoirs to the distribution system’s pipes buried below the city streets. They work at our facilities all over Denver Water’s service area. And, since they understand the system inside and out, they have the expertise to fix things when issues arise.
- They help save water, time and money. Denver Water’s plumbers, working throughout the utility’s system, have helped the utility’s sustainability team save over $1 million through a variety of efficiency projects (such as upgrading boilers), which is part of the utility’s goal to reduce our carbon footprint and reach a net-zero status by 2030. Double win! Your local plumber can do the same for you. That leaky outdoor faucet at your house? If you don’t get that fixed, the next bill could be for foundation work, which could cost serious bucks. All plumbers can help you solve small problems before they turn into big expensive ones.
Now that’s worthy of a big, bear hug. So, be sure to thank — and hug! — a plumber today.
