A video message from Denver Water's CEO on COVID-19

Jim Lochhead provides an overview of the utility's response, along with pictures of employees keeping the water flowing during the shelter-in-place order.

In a video message to customers, Denver Water CEO/Manager Jim Lochhead outlined the steps the utility that serves 1.5 million people in metro Denver is taking to ensure the water supply is safe from COVID-19.

Lochhead said Denver Water has been actively tracking the coronavirus since January and taken proactive steps to keep its workers safe.

“We have treatment processes in place that remove all traces of pathogens like coronavirus from drinking water,” Lochhead said. “We follow all state and federal guidelines to ensure make sure our water is safe.”

The utility continues to respond to pipe leaks and breaks that impact water delivery. It also has suspended water shut-offs due to delinquent payments to ensure all customers have access to this vital resource.

Lochhead asked the public to give Denver Water employees the space they need when they are working in neighborhoods.

“Employees who are able to work from home are doing so, and those who work in the field or at our operational facilities are using social distancing and following mask guidelines,” he said. “We have an unwavering commitment to our mission of making sure we’re sending safe and reliable drinking water every single day.”
