Waterton Canyon one-day closure Nov. 2

LITTLETON, Colo. — Oct. 26, 2023 Waterton Canyon will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 2, while Denver Water crews make improvements to a water distribution pipe in the canyon. Neither the parking lot at the canyon's entrance nor the canyon will be accessible during the closure. The canyon will reopen on Friday, Nov. 3.

“As a working facility, there are times when operations and maintenance projects create unsafe conditions for the public, prompting us to close trail access,” said Brandon Ransom, manager of recreation at Denver Water. “In this case, the project requires the use of a helicopter to bring in the appropriate equipment, and it is in everyone’s best interest that we close trail access for the day.”

“Waterton Canyon is an extremely popular recreation destination, and we recognize that any closure is an inconvenience,” said Ransom. “Safety will always come first and this is something we have to do to support crucial water system upgrades.”

Hikers and bikers on the Colorado Trail will need to seek alternative access points on Thursday, Nov. 2.
